Expecting Moms (& Dads) some advice – Stay Fit:
A little word of advice for all you expecting moms and dads out there…Stay Fit. This is advice that our parents and grandparents may have known or wasn’t as much of a concern but in today’s world, it sure is.
Once you put on those extra pounds it is difficult to get them off.
Caring for children is a strenuous activity, especially as you have more than 1. The amount of activity and work grows exponentially. You don’t need those extra pounds slowing you down.
Please consult with a doctor prior to engaging in any exercise while pregnant and post delivery.
Once you get cleared from the doctor to exercise, there are a few good low intensity activity – walking is great low intensity activity. A regular walking routine paired with healthy diet is sometimes enough to keep the weight off.
However, many require higher intensity to help reduce stress as well as stay engaged.
A little higher intensity activity will help fitness level, two key component exercises are:
Try to maintain a healthy balanced diet, keeping weight gain down throughout the pregnancy. Healthy recipes and recommendations to follow.
Trying to avoid additional pain associated with pregnancy and post delivery. Stretching exercises to avoid Sciatic nerve pain:
I was saved by this stretch and my husband helping stretch me during the pregnancies. It was a life saver. Try to avoid piriformis syndrome at all costs.
What is Piriformis Syndrome?
Piriformis syndrome is neuromuscular disorder that is caused when the piriformis muscle compresses the sciatic nerve. The piriformis muscle is a flat, band-like muscle located in the buttocks near the top of the hip joint. This muscle is important in lower body movement because it stabilizes the hip joint and lifts and rotates the thigh away from the body. This enables us to walk, shift our weight from one foot to another, and maintain balance. It is also used in sports that involve lifting and rotating the thighs — in short, in almost every motion of the hips and legs.
Again, eliminate sciatica and any nerve pain with the above stretches.
At the end of the day, stay fit prior to and after having children. It will help you avoid the bad times as well as be around longer for the good times (i.e. live longer).
